Such a beautiful old train station ... I don't know why I remember Thomas Mann and "The Magic Mountain"!

Esta fotografia lembra-me um filme de guerra que em tempos vi. Caminhos percorridos na imensidão do desconhecido. Apenas o silêncio e janelas que se calam na vida.

que imensidão de janela. Por qual delas espreitar a imensidão do céu???

That's a huge railway station!

At the first sight it looked to me like a giant train in movement!
Where is it?

It's the Estación Internacional at Canfranc, at the southern end of the Somport tunnel, opened in 1924. Because of different gauges, passengers from Pau in France had to change trains in Canfranc to continue to Zaragoza, and it took hours to get through customs. Not surprisingly, and given the existing rail crossings at Irún, Cerbère and Puigcerda, the station was a huge failure, and the tunnel, disused since the 1970s, now houses particle physics research installations. Canfranc is linked to France by a road tunnel, and a bus service from Oloron Sainte-Marie connects at Canfranc to a very slow train to Zaragoza. The old station is at last being restored, I think as a luxury hotel to service winter sports, in which the regional government appears of to have invested huge amounts.
